21 July 2026 – This statement is issued in relation to ongoing legal proceedings initiated by a former employee, against Transparency Maldives. An employment dispute filed against Transparency Maldives in 2019 was decided in favor of the employee by the Employment Tribunal and the decision was subsequently upheld by the High Court in March 2026.
The case presently before the Civil Court is in relation to enforcement proceedings concerning the payment to the former employer and Transparency Maldives continues to engage in the proceedings through its legal counsel. During the ongoing Civil Court proceedings, the judge instructed for the uncontested amount to be withheld in Transparency Maldives’ accounts. A final verdict in the enforcement proceedings has not been issued, and no formal communication of any decision has been communicated to Transparency Maldives or its legal counsel.
At the same time, the organization has taken steps to pursue further legal remedies in respect of the High Court’s decision and is currently awaiting a response regarding its appeal at the Supreme Court of the Maldives. Transparency Maldives will ensure full compliance with all prevailing laws and regulations and respect any final and binding determination of the Courts.
