Ibrahim Thayyib- Chairperson<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ibrahim Thayyib is a human rights practitioner with more than nine years of experience in the civil society sector in the Maldives. His primary focus areas include good governance, gender equality, and political violence. He has also worked in the government for over 10 years, with the last portfolio held being the Chief Executive Officer at the Family Protection Authority. Now he is perusing a Higher Degree by Research at the University of Sydney, Australia, focusing on the gendered nature of political violence.<\/p>\n

Thayyib holds a Master\u2019s degree in Human Rights and Democratization from the University of Sydney, Australia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Executive Director: Ms. Asiath Rilweena<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rilweena joined TM in May 2020 as the Executive Director. She\u00a0brings\u00a0over 15 years of senior management experience within the\u00a0public and private sector.\u00a0Her\u00a0current priority is to\u00a0strengthen the institutional capacity\u00a0and internal governance\u00a0framework of\u00a0TM, and\u00a0led the\u00a0recent revision of\u00a0TM\u2019s Articles of Association.\u00a0Prior to joining TM,\u00a0Rilweena worked as the Company Secretary\u00a0&\u00a0Manager Investor Relations of\u00a0Dhiraagu\u00a0PLC\u00a0where she\u00a0established\u00a0international corporate governance best practices and supported the company\u2019s\u00a0transition\u00a0as a\u00a0listed company.\u00a0She\u00a0served\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Economic Development\u00a0supervising the\u00a0Foreign\u00a0Direct\u00a0Investment\u00a0Department\u00a0and managed\u00a0the public private partnership projects of the\u00a0Ministry.\u00a0She has\u00a0managed\u00a0two\u00a0national level projects in the area of youth\u00a0training and\u00a0employment\u00a0(as Project Manager\u00a0in the\u00a0Ministry of Higher Education and Employment)\u00a0and on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction\u00a0(as the National Programme Officer in UNDP\u00a0Maldives).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rilweena holds a BSc in Accounting and Finance\u00a0(The University of Birmingham, UK),\u00a0an\u00a0MCom\u00a0in Finance\u00a0(The\u00a0University of Western Australia, Australia) and an MSC in International Business and Emerging Markets\u00a0(The\u00a0University of Edinburgh, UK).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Financial Controller: Ms. Fathimath Razeena<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a dedicated advocate for transparency and accountability, Ms Razeena brings a strong academic background and extensive professional experience to the board of Transparency Maldives.<\/p>\n

Armed with a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor\u2019s degree in accounting and finance, she is engaged in research on decentralised governments and their finance in Maldives local governments, aligning her academic pursuits with real-world impact dedicated to Maldives.<\/p>\n

Her proven track record in the public sector accounting office and as an experienced accountant general, coupled with leadership roles in SOE\u2019s boards and the SAARC Development Fund, demonstrates her commitment to fostering integrity and ethical practices.<\/p>\n

Eager to contribute her expertise in financial management and governance, she is ready to support Transparency Maldives in its mission to combat corruption for a more accountable society.<\/p>\n

General Board Member: Mr. Ahmed Najaaf Saleem<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ahmed Najaaf Saleem has worked in Maldives and Australia in the non-profit and commercial sectors; and has 12 years of experience in advocacy, digital transformation and project management. He currently leads the projects and development business unit for a Melbourne-based digital agency that works with a number of not-for-profit and political advocacy clients, including political parties in Australia.<\/p>\n

Najaaf holds a BA in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Queensland, and a Master\u2019s degree in Human Rights & Democratisation from the University of Sydney. His Master’s thesis is dedicated to an in-depth examination of transitional justice models implemented in post-conflict states. His research interests and expertise lie in the areas of the Refugee Convention and asylum laws.<\/p>\n

Najaaf has previously worked for the Maldives government\u00a0in various roles at the President’s Office, under three administrations. He has also briefly worked at Transparency Maldives in civic education and election monitoring projects.<\/p>\n

General Board Member: Ms. Shurufa Abdul Wahidh <\/strong><\/p>\n

With expertise in the areas of public finance and resource mobilization, Shurufa Abdul Wahidh currently works as the Programme Specialist for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. Prior to her current position, she has worked for the Ministry of Finance (2010 – 2020) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2005 \u2013 2007) in Maldives, and has consulted for the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank in the public finance sector. She has also worked at Transparency Maldives as a Fiscal Transparency Specialist (2021-2022).<\/p>\n

She holds a Master\u2019s Degree in Macroeconomic Policy from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan.<\/p>\n

Shifaza<\/strong> Wajeeh (General Board Member)<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shifaza has  been working at National Social Protection Agency since its inception in 2008. Currently , she works as the Director General and Head of Civil Servants at NSPA. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to NSPA, Shifaza worked at Social Security Section under different ministries, and participated at different levels in the development of Social Health Insurance Scheme, Social Cash Transfer Programs, Social Protection Act, Reform of Retirement and Old Age Basic Pension Schemes and the Disability Act. She have also served as a board member in the National Social Health Insurance Scheme Board from 2015 to 2017, Waste Management Board from 2016 to 2017 and as an Exco Member (Commissioner for Projects) at Maldives Girl Guides Association. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently Shifaza serves on the Maldives Pension Administration Office as a Board member representing the Social Security Sector. She has a Master\u2019s Degree in Development Studies from The University of Sydney, Australia and Bachelor of Economic (Hons) from Help University, Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sultana Shakir (General Board Member)\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sultana Shakir started her career as a junior officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives. After serving in various ranks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she joined the Elections Commissions of the Maldives, where she headed the Planning section of the Commission. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She then served as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Defence and National Security before assuming the role of the Permanent Secretary of the Attorney General\u2019s Office of the Maldives. After a brief leave, she joined Transparency Maldives as the HR Manager of the organization. Sultana is currently working as the Chief Administrator of the High Court of the Maldives. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her responsibilities include overseeing the daily management of the Office under the direction and guidance of the Chief Judge of the High Court and High Court Justices, policy formulation and implementation, personnel and finance management, including all operational management issues. With an extensive career in public service, Sultana\u2019s area of interest is public sector governance, public administration and anti-corruption in the public sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
